According to the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern, this summer could have been any better so far…
Jose Mourinho’s first season at Man Utd was a stellar one, with victory in the Europa League a clear highlight for the Red Devils.
With that victory comes the return of Champions League
football next season, with Mourinho taking his side back into Europe at the first time of asking.
However, a return to Europe is not the only reward for winning the Europa League. The victory also gave Man Utd entrance to the UEFA Super Cup, with the Red Devils set to take on the Champions League winners Real Madrid on Tuesday to contest the competition.
In a battle of Europe’s two major competition winners, only one side can come out on top, and whilst Real Madrid will likely go into the game as favourites, there is no reason why the Red Devils can’t pick up a surprise win.
With that said, if Mourinho picks this XI, Man Utd can smash Real Madrid in the Super Cup…
David De Gea has been a reliable hand for Jose Mourinho since the manager arrived.
He’ll continue to remain in goal for the foreseeable future.
Victor Lindelof has had a tough start to life in Manchester, but he’ll only get better with time.
The best is yet to come.
Chris Smalling is rarely a regular in the first team, but a recent formation switch from Mourinho could give him more of a chance.
He is solid on his day.
Daley Blind is often a solid defender, and he’ll be a reliable hand for the season to come.
His versatility will be key.
Much like Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian fits in wherever he is needed.
Though more natural on the right-hand side of the defence, he’ll no doubt impress on the left-hand side.
Ander Herera had a coming of age last season, and the next campaign looks set to be even better.
He is turning in to a real leader for the Red Devils.
He’s only a recent signing, but Matic will likely come straight into this side.
The Serbian will add some real solidity to the heart of the Man Utd midfield.
The acquisition of Nemanja Matic will allow Paul Pogba to power forward and become a real asset in the Man Utd attack.
He looked good at moments last season, but he needs to really prove his worth in the coming campaign.
Developed from an attacker into a modern day attacking defender, Valencia has been very reliable for Jose Mourinho.
He hasn’t got long left at the top, but he will continue to impress.
Playing just behind the striker, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is likely to be the man charged with setting up Man Utd’s new number 9.
He looked good at moments last season, but he really needs to kick on this year and impress.
Romelu Lukaku was Man Utd’s big money signing this summer, and he needs to start repaying his transfer fee quickly.
On his day he is unstoppable. He’ll need to be on top form to do battle with Real Madrid’s defenders.
