NECO delists 6 schools for engaging malpractices

The National Examinations Council (NECO) says it has delisted six schools from participating in its Senior School Certificate Examinations for engaging in various forms of examination malpractices.

The Registrar/ Chief Executive of the Examination body, Professor Charles Uwakwe who disclosed this while announcing the release of the June/July 2017 SSCE results yesterday in Minna, however did not name the affected schools. He also disclosed that 276 schools across 34 states were involved in what he described as mass cheating, while 59,586 candidates were involved in examination malpractices.

The examination body also blacklisted 26 supervisors who aided malpractices in one way or the other during the just concluded exercise.

In the overall candidates’ performance by states, Ekiti came top on the chart of with 85 per cent, while Edo came second with 84.61 per cent in the number of candidates with five credits and above including Mathematics and English Language.  Zamfara came last with 48. 45 percent. However, Zamfara has more number of candidates that sat for the examination than the two top states.

Professor Charles Uwakwe said out of the 1,051,472 candidates that sat for the examination, 947,850 have five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics. He said this year’s performance represents an improvement of 1.63 percent over the 2016 result, even as he confirmed that cases of exam malpractices had also increased this year by 0.52 per cent.
