1. The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Friday trashed the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 4 – 0 in the ongoing Russia 2018 World Cup Qualifiers in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Goals from Odion Ighalo, Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho gave the Nigerian team the victory.
2. Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra has explained that God has deliberately refused to approve the actualization of Biafra because his people still worship idolatry.
He said the moment his people turn away from idolatry, God will step in and give them the long-awaited Biafra Republic.
3. The Senior Special Adviser to the Vice-president on Media and Publicity, Mr Laolu Akande, on behalf of the Vice-president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has refuted the media reports, which earlier claimed the Vice-president had taken over the on-going negotiation between members of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and the Federal Government.
The presidency said Osinbajo has not taken over the negotiations as widely reported, adding that Ministers will continue to lead the FG-ASUU talks.
4. Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General TY Buratai has expressed confidence that Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, would be captured soon.
According to Buratai, although the hunt for the sect leader was still on, he was satisfied with the zeal and determination with which the directive was pursued.
5. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has called on the Nigerian media to deny the Boko Haram insurgents publicity, which he described as “the oxygen they desperately crave to survive.”
He said there is no resurgence of Boko Haram contrary to insinuation in some circles.
6. President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday in his country home, Daura expressed his pleasure, at seeing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) achieving the purpose of national unity that inspired its creation in 1973.
Buhari said the large number of corps members in Daura, mostly from the southern part of the country, was an indication that the dream of a unified Nigeria remained a reality.
7. The Executive Chairman of CACOL, Mr. Debo Adeniran, has called on state governments to stop sponsoring the yearly pilgrimage to Mecca and Jerusalem, saying that it was a form of corruption.
He said there were so many atrocities various administrations had been committing, including the sponsorship of pilgrimage, which include, lowering the exchange rate for pilgrims.
8. Boko Haram insurgents have killed 11 people on Friday in a raid on a camp for civilians displaced by the Islamist group’s violent insurgency.
The insurgents reportedly invaded the camp in Banki on Nigeria’s border with Cameroon which camps over 45,000 internally displaced people (IDP), using knives to kill their victims silently.
9. Three Muslim faithful were crushed on Friday after a car crashed into a prayer ground during Eid-El Kabir prayers in Ogun State.
The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the worshippers, killing three persons on the spot.
10. On international scene, Kenya’s Supreme Court has nullified the result of the August 8 presidential election won by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In a ruling on Friday, the court said the electoral board committed “irregularities and illegalities” during last month’s vote, harming the integrity of the election.
